As part of a collaboration between Food For Everyone and Powerhouse Made™, artist Marikit Santiago created an original artwork of chef Kylie Kwong AM and food educator Bhavna Kalra Shivalkar’s Indian-Chinese recipe, Hakka Noodles with Chicken and Hari Mirchi Sauce, featured in the Powerhouse Food: Little India program in Harris Park. The artwork and recipe now feature in a limited-edition Food for Everyone print, available in A2 and A3 and produced on archival paper stock with gold foil detailing, celebrating the recipe as a work of creativity, history and cultural knowledge.

Santiago is a Western Sydney-based Filipina-Australian painter known for combining unconventional and discarded materials with gold leaf, creating a tension between what is valued and what gets thrown away. Her practice explores ideas of value, family, migration and identity, drawing in part on her own experience as the daughter of migrants.

For every print purchased, Food For Everyone donates 10 meals to food relief organisation SecondBite.

Prints are supplied unframed, however limited selection of framed prints is also available in both A2 and A3 sizes. Alternatively, frames can be purchased from Food For Everyone or any retailer offering standard A2 and A3 frame sizes.

Marikit Santiago x Food for Everyone

Marikit Santiago is a celebrated Filipina-Australian artist based on Dharug land in Western Sydney, known for her richly layered paintings that explore family, cultural identity, faith, and migration. Her work blends personal narrative with broader historical and symbolic references, frequently incorporating oil paint, gold leaf and humble materials like cardboard. Santiago is a four-time Archibald Prize finalist and won the 2020 Sir John Sulman Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. In 2024, she received the La Prairie Art Award, securing works for the AGNSW collection and an international residency in Europe. Her solo exhibitions include For Us Sinners at 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art and Marikit Santiago: The Kingdom, The Power at Bendigo Art Gallery. Her practice is deeply informed by her Filipino heritage, her role as a mother, and her experiences of cultural plurality in Australia.

Food For Everyone is a Melbourne-based culinary poster shop founded by artist Gemma Leslie in 2020, pairing chefs with artists to transform signature recipes into limited-edition prints, with ten meals donated to food relief charity SecondBite for every poster sold. In collaboration with Powerhouse Made™, Food For Everyone commissioned Santiago to create an original artwork inspired by chef Kylie Kwong AM and food educator Bhavna Kalra Shivalkar’s Indian-Chinese recipe, Hakka Noodles with Chicken and Hari Mirchi Sauce, featured in the Powerhouse Food: Little India program. The resulting limited-edition print brings together art and food, celebrating the recipe as an expression of creativity, history and cultural knowledge.
