DESIRE – THE MALL VOLUME 1
Desire is volume 1 in a series of publications produced in association with The Mall exhibition, opening at Powerhouse Parramatta 7 November 2026. Developed in partnership with the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA, Rotterdam), The Mall explores the history, currency and future of shopping as a cultural phenomenon. The publications are conceived as a suite of ‘bookazines’ — hybrid book/magazines — and combine long-form essays, interviews, short curatorial texts and critical and literary writing alongside visual essays and portraiture as well as illustrations, charts and infographics related to shopping malls around the world. Riffing on the magazine typology, curated ‘advertising’ from partner brands creates a dynamic front section. Edited by David Gianotten (OMA), Stephen Todd (Powerhouse), Sylvia Chan (OMA) and Gabriel Duarte (OMA). Art direction led by Fabio Ongarato (Studio Ongarato).
